Guiding Statement

Mission statement:

To serve Tokyo's international community by providing an academically challenging, creatively stimulating, and caring atmosphere for learning.

Vision:

Our school is small by design. We firmly believe that students are not numbers, but unique individuals with unique needs and learning styles. Our students, a diverse mix of foreign students living in Tokyo and bicultural students, represent many countries and backgrounds from around the world, and help to create a truly international community.

To ensure our students' success we keep our academic classes under 12, and provide extra support for individual learning styles, while motivating our students to excel with a variety of Advanced Placement, honors, and creative classes. Learning at KAIS helps students grow closer to their potential and prepares them for the challenges they will face in the future.

Philosophy:

Knowledge – We aim to provide students with the tools, freedom, and openness needed to understand and analyze the ever-changing, increasingly complex modern world.

Academia – Our rigorous academic programs challenge students on every level, and encourage students to push themselves to new heights.

Inspiration – We encourage our students to pursue their passions, whatever they may be. We also encourage our teachers and staff to share their passions with students, both inside and outside the classroom.

Spirit – The environment at KAIS is like no other. Students call teachers by their first names. Teachers collaborate on cross-disciplinary projects. Classroom instruction routinely spills over into extracurricular activities, and vise versa. KAIS is the place where excitement about learning and passion for life are cultural norms.
